Del 19 al 21 de septiembre, de 9.30 a 14.30 h.

This course is designed to allow public health practitioners (and people in other allied health fields) to understand the challenges that come with doing research in urban settings. This course will be taught in a seminar format, by asking students to read a paper for each session, which will then be discussed during class. This discussion follows a brief lecture by one of the instructors in order to help students link theoretical concepts to the paper and the topic under discussion.

Participants in this course will be able to:
- Describe basic concepts in urban health and specific research areas
- Name challenges in epidemiologic methods related to urban health
- Describe concepts and challenges in the study of urban food systems and built environments.
- Understand the translation of urban health research into urban policy proposals

We will divide the course into six topics, two on each day. Each topic will have a 45-60min lecture by one of the instructors, followed by a 30-45 min small group discussion of a required set of papers (usually 1 or 2 per topic). Then the class will convene again and wrap-up the discussions with the entire class in around 30 minutes. Each group will be provided with a set of discussion questions for each paper.

The topics will be as follows:
(1) What is Urban Health and Urban Health Research?
(2) Population Preventive Approaches in Cities
(3) Urban Food Systems Research
(4) Methodologic Challenges in Urban Health Research
(5) Physical Activities in Cities and Transportation
(6) Translation into Policies.

All students must read the required papers in advance. The papers will be provided two weeks before the course begins.
